How to Clean Bird Poop from Clothing

Whether you have pet birds that poop on your clothing or a bird outdoors makes a mess on you, these droppings can leave stains if not treated immediately. Some stains may come out quickly, but others may take additional steps to remove if the bird has been eating berries, which make stains harder to erase from fabrics. Depending on the stain's severity, take steps to remove it -- and any residue -- to get your clothing looking as good as new.

Things You'll Need

  • Butter knife
  • Napkin
  • Enzymatic pet stain remover
  • Enzymatic laundry detergent
  • Eye dropper

Instructions

    • 1

Use a butter knife to scrape off the bird dropping over a trashcan or onto a napkin. Remove all of the dropping and dispose of it.

    • 2

Rinse the stain with cold water to remove residue from the bird dropping.

    • 3

Spray the stain with an enzymatic pet-stain remover and allow it to sit for 15 minutes.

    • 4

Wash the clothing with an enzymatic laundry detergent.

    • 5

Check the stain. If it remains, apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide followed by a drop or two of ammonia, using an eyedropper, and then launder again with an enzymatic detergent.

    • 6

Soak the clothing in a solution of 1 quart of water, 1 tablespoon of vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of enzymatic laundry detergent if the stain remains. Particularly stubborn stains may be due to the bird eating berries.

    • 7

Rinse the garment in cold water and sponge it with rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining signs of the stain.

    • 8

Wash and dry the garment as usual once you see no signs of the stain.
