How to Get Red Lipstick and Red Juice Out of a Sweater

Spot cleaning your sweater will help keep it looking newer for longer. Some stains, such as red lipstick or red juice, will stand out and be quite visible. Don’t try to spot clean sweaters that are labeled dry clean only. Instead, take them to a dry cleaners as soon as possible to remove red stains. Test the cleaning process on a small and inconspicuous area of the sweater first to make sure it wont damage the color or texture of the sweater.

Instructions

  1. Removing Red Juice Stains

    • 1

Lay the sweater out on a flat, heat-resistant surface such as your tub or sink.

    • 2

Boil a pot of water on your stove.

    • 3

Pour the boiling water directly over the red juice stain. Boiling water will easily remove and take the color out of red juice stains.

    • 4

Let the sweater dry completely on a flat surface.

    Removing Red Lipstick Stains

    • 5

Soak a clean cloth in rubbing alcohol.

    • 6

Dab the alcohol on the red lipstick stain until it is gone. Be very careful not to spread the stain by rubbing too hard or by working it from the center of the lipstick stain toward the edges. Use a new cloth and more rubbing alcohol as needed.

    • 7

Blot the area with plain water to rinse out the rubbing alcohol.

    • 8

Dab ammonia on the stain with a cotton swab if you can still see it.
