White china or other white dishes look sophisticated and elegant until you find them covered in gray marks, which you might at first believe are permanent. These scratches are the result of utensils hitting the plates, and while such marks are unsightly, they are fairly easy to remove with powder cleansers. Baking soda is one inexpensive option for removing these marks so your plates look new again, or try a commercial cleanser to remove the scratches.

Combine a 1/4 cup or less of baking soda with water to make a paste in a small bowl. Use more or less baking soda depending on how many plates you have to clean.

Dip a clean sponge in the paste and use it to scrub the plates until the marks are gone completely.

Use another nonabrasive powder cleanser in place of the baking soda to make a paste that will remove the marks if needed. Use a clean sponge.
