How to Remove Nail Polish From a Bedspread or Comforter

Nail polish stains range from the spillage of a few drops to an overturned bottle resulting in a large blotchy stain. A nail polish stain of any size occurring on a bedspread or comforter, especially an expensive one, is unsightly and potentially costly, as some types of material may require professional cleaning. Getting rid of the nail polish is only half the problem; it is also necessary to remove the color stain left by the polish. Removing a combination stain such as nail polish requires patience and a gentle touch.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak up as much of the nail polish as possible with absorbent paper towels immediately after the spill occurs, while it is still wet. If the nail polish has hardened on the bedspread, blot it with a small sponge moistened with nail polish remover. Apply just enough nail polish remover to liquefy the nail polish, then use paper towels to absorb it.

    • 2

Treat the nail polish stain on the bedspread or comforter with dry cleaning solvent, according to the directions on the label. Continue the process until the stain is completely removed.

    • 3

Rinse the stained area on the bedspread or comforter thoroughly by patting and dabbing it with a cloth liberally dampened with water. Continue until all signs of the stain and the dry cleaning solvent are gone.
