How to Clean Blackened Aluminum

Grease from food can burn or bake during cooking and blacken aluminum pans. Aluminum may also develop a black tarnish due to acids in foods, oxidation or exposure to extremely hot water in the dishwasher. You can restore blackened aluminum with baking soda and vinegar.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Pour enough water in the aluminum pan to completely cover the black portions. Add 1 teaspoon vinegar for every cup of water you use.

Boil the solution for 20 minutes and remove it from heat.

    • 3

Scrape the pan with a wooden spoon to loosen the black stain. Rinse the pan with cold water. If black stains remain, you need to use baking soda.
