How to Get Stains Off Cooktops

A cooktop is a prime location for a variety of stains. Grease, food, dirt and grime are all equal-opportunity stain-makers. As they build up, these stains leave a dirty, smelly film on your cooktop. Regardless of whether your cooktop is porcelain enamel, glass or stainless steel, you can get stains off with common household supplies that will remove the stains without leaving permanent scratches behind.

Instructions

    • 1

Moisten a clean cloth with hot water. Wring out the excess moisture. Lay the cloth over any baked- or burned-on stains on the stove top. Leave the cloth on the stains for five to 10 minutes to soften them.

    • 2

Fill a small bowl with 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Stir the two ingredients to blend them well.

    • 3

Remove the moist cloth from the surface of your stove top, wiping up the loosened stain matter as you lift the cloth.

    • 4

Dip a clean sponge in the vinegar and baking soda solution. Apply the thin paste to the remaining stains. Allow the paste to sit on the stove top for two to three minutes.

    • 5

Scrub the stove top to get the remaining stains off the cooktop. Rinse the surface by wiping it with a damp cloth.

    • 6

Dry your cooktop with another cloth. Pour a quarter-sized amount of club soda on a dry cloth. Buff the stove top surface to a shine with the club soda.
