Removing Nail Polish From Grout

Spilled nail polish is easily removable with an acetone cleaner such as nail polish remover, but it can discolor grout between the tile well after the nail polish has been cleaned up. Grout cleaner effectively removes surface stains, but a homemade solution is necessary to effectively lift the nail polish from the grout and restore the grout's white color. Baking soda, vinegar and ammonia -- powerful cleaners when combined to bleach the grout -- are safe to use on both the grout and tile without damaging either surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1/3 cup of ammonia and 1/2 cup of baking soda into the spray bottle.

    • 2

Pour 7 cups of water into the spray bottle. Mix in 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the spray bottle and quickly tighten the top on the spray bottle to prevent the solution from fizzing out. The vinegar reacts with the baking soda to create a bubbling solution, which is effective for eliminating stains.

    • 3

Shake the bottle's ingredients and spray the homemade solution directly on the grout. Let it sit for five minutes.

    • 4

Brush the grout with a toothbrush to lift nail polish from the grout.

    • 5

Wipe the grout with a wet sponge to clean up any residue.
