Remove any objects from the piece of furniture containing the oil spot. Sit the objects to the side.
Wipe the oil spot and surrounding area with a soft cloth or towel to remove any loose dust and dirt. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands clean.
Place a piece of blotting paper on top of the oil spot. Blotting paper is available at hardware and home improvement stores as well as online. Plug in an iron and set its control to “Medium” or “4.”
Place the warm iron on the blotting paper and move the iron back and forth over the paper. Raise up the blotting paper and check to see if the spot is gone. Repeat step until the oil spot is gone.
Wipe the piece of furniture with a clean towel before placing objects back on the surface.
Complete Steps 1 and 2 in the previous section. Sprinkle talc powder on the oil spot and let the powder stand overnight.
Place a piece of newspaper underneath or next to the piece of painted furniture. Sweep the talc powder off of the piece of furniture using a stiff brush onto the newspaper.
Mix equal parts Fuller’s Earth powder, dry cleaning solvent and warm water in a pot, if the oil spot is still present on the piece of painted furniture. Stir the mixture with an old spoon into a stiff paste. Leave the piece of newspaper underneath or next to the furniture. Fuller’s Earth powder and dry cleaning solvent are available at hardware, chemical supply and home improvement stores as well as online.
Apply the paste to the oil spot and let the paste dry overnight. Sweep the paste off of the piece of furniture using the stiff brush onto the newspaper.
Wipe the piece of furniture with a clean towel before placing objects back on the surface.
