How to Get Glowstick Juice Out of Fabric Couch

Technically, the chemiluminescent reaction of glowsticks occurs when hydrogen peroxide is combined with another chemical reactant, such as phenyl oxalate, and a fluorescent dye. To your kids, glowsticks are the bracelets that you crackle and snap to create luminescent hours of fun. Unfortunately, the fun sometimes goes too far, leaving your furniture covered in glowstick juice. It is possible to safely remove the glowstick material from your fabric couch without causing further damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a soft cloth with water. Dab the spill immediately after it occurs to help prevent permanent staining.

    • 2

Create a mixture of 1/2 tablespoon liquid dish soap and 3 cups warm water. Stir the water to incorporate the dish soap.

    • 3

Dampen a soft cloth with the soapy water and dab the glowstick stain. Continue to dab the stain until it is completely gone. If the stain is not removed, move onto the next step.

    • 4

Dampen a soft cloth with dry cleaning solution. Blot the stain with the solution to eliminate the remaining stain.

    • 5

Allow the dry cleaning solution to remain for 10 to 15 minutes before blotting the fabric with a damp soft cloth.

    • 6

Set a towel onto the damp fabric and apply pressure to remove excess water.
