How to Get Latex Paint out of the Kitchen Sink

The kitchen sink sees a lot of grime, and if you’ve used it to clean your brushes after using latex paint, there will likely be some paint in there, too. Luckily, latex is a water-based paint, making it much easier to remove than its oil-based counterpart. If the paint has dried onto the sink, rinsing it with water won’t be enough. Try other products that will get the paint off without damaging the sink.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray a generous amount of silicone lubricating spray onto the paint spots. Let the spray sit for 15 minutes.

    • 2

Scrape away as much of the latex paint as possible with a plastic pan scraper, putty knife or ice scraper. Apply more lubricating spray and continue scraping until no more paint is coming off the kitchen sink.

    • 3

Apply more lubricating spray and scrub the paint spots with a nylon scrubber. The scraping removes the paint on the surface, but if the paint spots are flush with the sink, scrubbing will be necessary.

    • 4

Wash out the kitchen sink with a rag and warm, soapy water.

    • 5

Moisten a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol if the paint is still there. Sponge the alcohol onto the paint spots. Wait five minutes, then scrape and scrub off the paint. Wash the sink well with warm, soapy water.
