How to Remove Scorch Marks From Vintage Corningware

Vintage Corningware features funky designs and patterns you cannot find on modern kitchenware. Whether you purchase the pieces from a thrift store or yard sale, or inherit pieces, you should clean the pieces properly. The vintage pieces show a lot of wear and tear from routine use. Cooking the dish at a high temperature may result in black scorch marks left on the bottom. Removing those scorch marks restores the original look and style of the vintage pieces.

Instructions

    • 1

Squeeze a few drops of grease-cutting dish soap into the bottom of the Corningware. Pour warm water into the dish and let it sit out overnight. The next morning, scrub the bottom of the pan with the nylon scrub brush, removing as much of the scorch marks as possible.

    • 2

Sprinkle the non-abrasive cleaner on a kitchen sponge. Rub the cleaner around the scorch marks. Add enough water that the mixture forms a paste. Scrub the solution on the scorch marks and rinse with fresh water.

    • 3

Pour baking soda in a small bowl and add an equal amount of water. Stir the mixture around until the two form a thick paste. Rub the paste on the scorch marks and let sit for several minutes. Rub the mixture onto the marks and rinse with more water.

    • 4

Place the Corningware in a plastic trash bag and carry it outside. Spray the oven cleaner on the scorch marks and quickly tie the bag closed. Leave the piece in the bag overnight and rinse with fresh water the next day. Clean with soap and water, removing any traces of the oven cleaner before using the piece.

Clean scorch marks on the outside bottom of the Corningware with a scouring pad. The scouring pad is abrasive enough that with a little scrubbing, you completely lift off the stains. Add a little water, which helps pull off the marks.
