How to Get Rid of Rust & Hard Water Stains in the Toilet With Cola

When water contains high levels of dissolved minerals, it is considered to be hard water. With calcium and magnesium the two biggest culprits, this mineral-laden water tends to leave behind stubborn stains that seem to defy most cleaning methods. If nasty rust and hard water stains are making your toilet look filthy despite your best cleaning efforts, look no further than your refrigerator for a can of cola to eliminate both the stain and the effort of trying to vigorously scrub it away.

Instructions

    • 1

Flush the toilet to eliminate anything that may be in the bowl other than water.

    • 2

Open a can of cola, and pour it directly into the toilet bowl.

    • 3

Leave the cola in the toilet without flushing for at least an hour, though overnight is optimal.

    • 4

Flush the toilet after it has had a chance to allow the acidity of the cola to dissolve most of the stain.

    • 5

Scrub away the residual stain with a toilet brush, and flush it again.
