How to Get Lipstick Off With Seltzer Water

Many women consider lipstick an everyday part of life, while others only wear it on special occasions. Lipstick is greasy and colorful, making it a stain waiting to happen, especially if you have kids. No matter how often you find yourself using lipstick, you are bound to find yourself having to deal with a lipstick stain. The good news is that seltzer water, also known as carbonated water, works well for removing lipstick, so you do not need to track down any specialty cleansers to correct a lipstick stain.

Instructions

    • 1

Dab the lipstick with tissue or napkins to remove the caked-on top layer. Do not rub the lipstick stain. Rubbing spreads the stain and causes it to become embedded deeper into the fabric. Use as many tissues as you need until there is no more lipstick transferring onto the tissues.

    • 2

Cover the lipstick with baking soda. Let the baking soda set for a minute. Use a toothbrush to brush the baking soda off the stain. Sweep the baking soda off the fabric. The wet lipstick particles bind with the baking soda and are then removed.

Soak the stain with seltzer water. Let the seltzer water bubble over the stain. Add a drop of liquid dish-washing soap. Use a toothbrush to scrub off the stain.

Wet a cloth and rinse the seltzer water and detergent out if the fabric. Dab the area with a dry cloth to remove the water, seltzer and detergent mixture. Repeat this step as needed.
