How to Remove JELL-O From a Carpet

JELL-O is an easy treat to make, but once it spills, it can cause extremely stubborn carpet stains. The dyes in JELL-O, particularly red JELL-O, can permanently mark your carpet, so take action at once if you notice a spill. Remove any solid gelatin chunks, and be careful not to scrub the dye further into the carpet fibers, as this makes removal even more difficult.

Instructions

  1. Ammonia Removal

    • 1

Put on a face mask if you are sensitive to ammonia fumes. Otherwise, you can simply keep your face away from the working surface.

    • 2

Blot the JELL-O-stained area gently with a clean rag to pick up as much of it as possible.

    • 3

Mix 1 cup of water with 1 tablespoon of ammonia in a spray bottle.

    • 4

Spray the stain with the ammonia mixture, wetting the area thoroughly.

    • 5

Lay a dampened rag over the stain.

    • 6

Run a warm iron turned to the lowest setting over the cloth until the stain transfers to the cloth.

    • 7

Rinse the area by spraying it with clean water, and then blotting the moisture away with a clean cloth.

    Detergent Removal

    • 8

Mix 1 tablespoon of bleach-free detergent and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle.

    • 9

Spray the JELL-O stain using the detergent mixture.

    • 10

Blot the stain with a clean cloth.

    • 11

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone.

    • 12

Rinse the area by spraying it with clean water, and then blotting the moisture away with a clean cloth.
