How to Clean Burnt Oil From a Glass Top Stove

A fresh oil stain on your glass top stove is easily cleaned up. But if the oil is left on the surface and becomes burned on, you're left with a more difficult mess to clean. Burned oil becomes gooey and hardened on the glass surface. While abrasives can help remove the stain, they damage the glass by scratching it. You can successfully clean burnt oil off a glass top stove but must use cleaning supplies and techniques that are safe for the surface.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Squirt ceramic and glass cooktop cleaner onto the burnt oil stain on your glass top stove. Use enough to lightly coat the stain. Allow the cleaner to sit on the stain for five minutes to soften it.

    • 2

Place the edge of the scraper against the edge of the burnt oil stain. Hold the razor at a 45-degree angle to the oil stain.

    • 3

Wriggle the edge of the scraper under the softened oil stain. Gently scrape as much of the stain off as possible.

    • 4

Wipe the glass top stove with a damp cloth to remove debris from the stain.

    • 5

Sprinkle baking soda onto the cloth for mild and safe abrasiveness. Scrub the surface of the glass top stove to remove the remaining burnt oil stain.

    • 6

Rinse the stove top with a damp cloth. Dry the surface with another cloth.
