Tar from the roof or the road looks the same in your fiberglass shower or tub. It’s black and gooey and calls for cleaning before it spreads or becomes permanent. You can try some natural products, and if that fails to clean your fiberglass shower, car and cleaning manufacturers have products that will come to the rescue. Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the area for cleaning by creating some air flow with the bathroom fan or an open window. Wear protective glasses and gloves if you are sensitive to chemical products.

    • 2

Dilute Simple Green as recommended on the bottle, and apply it to the tar in the shower. Leave it to soak a minute or so. Lay a washcloth or piece of towel over the tar and Simple Green, and clean from the outer edges toward the middle so you do not spread the tar. If you see results, you may apply more Simple Green and repeat the process. Rinse with warm water. Dry the area if the tar is not completely removed.

    • 3

Apply some fingernail polish remover with acetone to a clean dry cloth and rub the fiberglass surface lightly. Wipe the area immediately with a wet cloth to remove all traces of polish remover.

Spray some Toyota Bug and Tar Remover on a soft cloth, and test it in an inconspicuous place on your fiberglass shower. If it does not dull or discolor the surface, spray more of this product on the soft cloth and apply it to the tar in your fiberglass shower. This product is safe for most plastics. Follow the directions on the can, and wipe the area with a clean cloth. Wash with warm water, and dry the area. If the tar continues to be visible, repeat the application, wipe with a clean cloth and rinse with warm water.
