How to Get Red Kool-Aid Out of a White Coat

A glass of cherry or strawberry flavored Kool-Aid is tasty and refreshing for both children and adults. These Kool-Aid flavors are dyed red, though, so they create a noticeable stain when you spill them on your clothes. Red Kool-Aid is notoriously difficult to remove, especially when spilled on a white coat. Bleach removes most Kool-Aid stains, especially on white fabric, and it is safe to use on most types of fabric.

Instructions

    • 1

Dab the Kool-Aid with a paper towel to remove the excess liquid if the stain is fresh. When the Kool-Aid dries, dab the stain with liquid detergent to pre-treat it.

    • 2

Dilute all-fabric powdered bleach in a container of water according to the directions on the bleach package. Soak the coat in this diluted bleach solution.

    • 3

Pour fresh liquid bleach into the container cap and add the bleach to a container filled with water. Soak the stained coat in the liquid bleach until the red stain disappears. This usually takes about 15 minutes. If it does not disappear, add a bit more bleach.

    • 4

Launder the coat with cold water to remove the detergent and bleach.
