How to Get Hurricane Oil Out of a Microsuede Couch

Microsuede upholstery gives you the look and feel of suede without the expense or high-maintenance needs. Similar to any other type of upholstery, microsuede is absorbent, and an oil stain should be tended to quickly. No matter how long a hurricane lamp oil stain has been on your microsuede couch, you can get it out and remove the accompanying discoloration by absorbing the oil completely. When you use supplies and techniques that are safe for microsuede you can effectively get hurricane oil out of the upholstery without damaging the suede-like material.

Instructions

    • 1

Sprinkle a layer of cornstarch over the hurricane lamp oil stain on your microsuede couch. Let the cornstarch remain on the upholstery for 20 minutes to absorb the oil.

    • 2
A hand vacuum or upholstery attachment effectively cleans off microsuede.

Vacuum the cornstarch off the microsuede. Repeat all of these steps to remove as much hurricane oil as possible.

    • 3

Dampen a sponge with dry cleaning solvent. Dab at the remaining hurricane oil stain on the microsuede upholstery.

    • 4

Lay a clean cloth over the microsuede. Press down with your hands to absorb as much moisture as possible. Allow the microsuede couch upholstery to air-dry.

    • 5
Use a brush to fluff the nap and remove surface dirt from microsuede.

Blend and fluff the microsuede nap by brushing it with a natural bristle brush.
