Fill a sink with cool water and add the manufacturer’s recommended amount of a mild detergent.
Submerse the garment and gently bounce the fabric in the water to work the detergent and water through the fabric. Do not scrub or wring the garment. This causes the garment to felt and shrink.
Allow the garment to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
Drain the water from the sink and rinse thoroughly under cool running water. Hold the garment up and allow the majority of the water to drip from the garment.
Blot excess water from the garment by pressing it between two towels.
Dry the garment flat. Do not place the garment in the dryer. The heat and agitation cause wool to felt and shrink.
