How to Get Black Eye Makeup Off Wood Furniture

When your little makeup artist gets hold of black eye makeup and uses wood furniture as a canvas, the result is a grease and pigment-based stain. The wrong removal procedures only cause the black makeup to smear and spread, but left unattended the makeup will transfer to other surfaces. You can get rid of black eye makeup stains on wood furniture using supplies and techniques that tend to both the oil and pigment portions of the stain.

  • Cornstarch
  • Paper towels
  • Bucket
  • 1 teaspoon dishwashing detergent
  • Clean cloths
  • 1 tablespoon Fuller's Earth
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon dry cleaning solvent

Instructions

      Sprinkle cornstarch over the black eye makeup stains to absorb oil. Allow the cornstarch to remain on the wood surface for 15 minutes. Wipe the cornstarch off the wood furniture with a paper towel.

      Fill a bucket with 1/2 gallon of warm water. Add 1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent to the water.

      Wet a clean cloth with the diluted detergent solution. Squeeze out the cloth to remove excess moisture.

      Wipe the wood furniture to remove the remaining black eye makeup from the surface. Rinse the cloth as you remove the makeup stain. Add more detergent solution and continue to scrub.

      Select soft cleaning cloths that won't scratch your wood furniture.

      Rinse the wood surface by wiping it off with a damp cloth. Dry the wood with another cloth.

      Treat any remaining discoloration and grease stain from the black eye makeup with a poultice. Place 1 tablespoon of Fuller's Earth and 1 1/2 tablespoons of dry cleaning solvent in a bowl. Stir the two ingredients to create a stain-absorbing paste.

      Smooth the paste over any remaining black eye makeup stain. Allow the paste to dry. Wipe the dried paste off with a damp cloth. Clean the wood with the detergent mixture to remove any poultice paste residue.
