How to Get Rid of Glass Rings on Ubatuba Granite

Ubatuba granite also goes by the names ubatuba green and verde ubatuba, among others, and is manufactured in Brazil. It comes in base colors of gold, black, green and gray and contains lighter-colored speckles throughout. Like all other granite, ubatuba is porous and absorbs stains such as wine and acidic drinks. If your ubatuba granite has glass rings on it, removing them requires creating a poultice to draw the stain out.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a sponge under a faucet until wet. Wring it out slightly until no water drips. Dab the glass rings with the sponge to thoroughly wet the area.

    • 2

Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of whiting powder to a small bowl. Add water a little at a time until the mixture forms into a very thick paste; refer to powder instructions for specific water amounts.

    • 3

Spread the paste over the glass rings until it is 1/4 inch thick. Avoid getting the paste on any nonstained areas of the granite.

    • 4

Place a piece of clear plastic wrap over the paste and press down gently. Apply masking tape around the edges of the plastic wrap to hold it down. Pierce the top of the wrap two to three times with a knife tip to speed up the drying process.

    • 5

Wait two days and pull off the tape and plastic wrap. Saturate a sponge with distilled water and wipe the granite surface to remove the paste mixture.

    • 6

Dry the granite with a towel and examine it to see if any remnants of the glass rings remain. If you see any stains, repeat the process to finish removing them from the granite.
