Removing Adhesive Residue From Self-Stick Laminate

Changing floor covering can alter the overall appearance of a room. Whether your old flooring has become an eyesore or you just want a different look, when you remove self-stick laminate floor materials, there can be a sticky residue left behind. Removing the sticky residue left by laminate tiles isn't as difficult a chore as removing heavy and hardened glue adhesive used for other flooring materials. With the right removal methods and the appropriate supplies, you can remove adhesive residue after taking off self-stick laminate flooring.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on rubber gloves to avoid skin irritation from the adhesive remover.

    • 2

Apply adhesive remover with a paintbrush to the stuck-on adhesive glue from the self-stick laminate tiles. Allow the adhesive remover to sit on the glue and soften it as directed by the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 3

Insert the edge of a scraper under the softened glue. Scrape the glue off of the floor to remove it. Repeat this step to remove all the adhesive from the laminate flooring.

    • 4

Fill a bucket with undiluted white vinegar. Soak a scrub brush in the vinegar and tap the excess liquid back into the bucket.

    • 5

Scrub the floor to remove any last traces of self-stick adhesive residue. Rinse the brush as needed. Wet the brush with more vinegar and continue to wash the floor.

    • 6

Dry the floor with clean cloths. Allow the flooring to air-dry completely before installing the new flooring materials.
