Removing Grease From Leather With Talcum Powder

Greasy spills on any surface make a slippery mess and can result in discoloration. A porous surface, such as leather, absorbs grease left to sit on the surface. Once the grease has soaked into the leather, you have to work a little bit harder to get it out. Washing the surface isn't enough to remove an oil stain on grease. You can remove a grease stain from leather with an absorbent material, such as talcum powder.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a paper towel over the greasy spill on the leather. Absorb any excess grease from the surface then discard the towel.

    • 2

Cover the grease stain on your leather item with talcum powder to absorb the remaining grease. Leave the powder on the leather surface for 20 minutes.

    • 3

Brush off the leather surface with a clean cloth to remove the talcum powder. Sweep the powder into the trash. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 if the greasy spot still remains on the leather.

    • 4

Dampen a clean cloth with white vinegar. Squeeze out the excess liquid.

    • 5

Dab at the leather surface to remove any last traces of grease, as well as to clean and deodorize the material. Dry the leather with another cloth.

    • 6

Pour a nickel-sized amount of leather conditioner onto a cloth. Rub the conditioner into the leather to restore the leather's moisture.
