How to Remove a Stain From a Wood Banister

A wooden banister is subject to a variety of stain-causing materials. Dirty hands, spills, grease and dust collect on the surface to make the wood dirty and discolored. If the wood is dark enough, stains can build up for awhile before they're noticed. A dirty, stained wood banister is a breeding ground for germs, bacteria and mold spores. You can keep the banister clean and stain-free with common household supplies and techniques that preserve the condition of the wood.
