How to Fix an Ice Stain on Suede

When ice melts to slush with the help of road salt, the moisture that ends up on your suede footwear leaves ugly white stains. The white lines and film detract from the appearance of your suede boots or shoes, leaving footwear looking dirty. Stains from ice, slush and road salt don't have to become a permanent part of your suede boots and shoes. You can fix an ice stain with common supplies from around the house, coupled with careful cleaning techniques.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrub the suede surface gently with an old, clean toothbrush. Use the brushing motion to loosen ice stains in the fibers of the suede.

    • 2

Brush the suede in one direction to dust off the loosened ice and salt stain matter.

    • 3

Pour 1/4 cup of water into a bucket. Follow that with 1/4 cup of white vinegar.

    • 4

Dip a sponge into the diluted vinegar solution to dampen it. Sponge the surface of your suede shoes or boots to lift the remaining ice and salt stains.

    • 5

Press a clean cloth into the suede surface to absorb moisture. Fill the insides of the boots or shoes with newspaper to maintain the shape of the footwear as it dries.

    • 6

Set your suede footwear out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, such as a radiator or heating vent. Allow the suede to air-dry completely.

    • 7

Brush the surface of your suede footwear with the toothbrush. Fluff the suede fibers and blend the nap.
