Removal of Dry Wax on Leather Furniture

Dry wax on your leather furniture -- whether it comes from candle or furniture wax -- can make your fine furniture feel slippery and look ugly. Left unattended, the wax easily transfers to your clothing when you sit on the couch and attracts dirt and dust. To restore your leather furniture to better-looking condition, you must remove the dry wax using supplies and techniques safe for the leather surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Melt any chunks of dried wax on the surface of your leather furniture with a hairdryer. Set the hairdryer to the lowest heat setting. Hold the hairdryer 1 foot above the wax stain and heat it until softened.

    • 2

Wipe the softened wax off the furniture surface with paper towels.

    • 3
Vinegar cuts through oily wax residue without harming leather.

Place 1 cup warm water in a bucket. Add 1/2 cup white vinegar to the bucket.

    • 4

Soak a clean cloth in the vinegar solution. Squeeze out excess moisture.

    • 5

Scrub the surface of the leather furniture to remove the remaining dry wax. Rinse the cloth frequently. Apply more vinegar solution and continue to scrub the entire surface to remove the wax.

    • 6

Wipe the leather dry with another clean cloth. Allow the furniture surface to dry for two to three hours.

    • 7

Buff the leather with a leather conditioner to moisturize the surface without using any waxy substance. Wipe the leather with a dry cloth to remove excess moisturizer.
