How to Fix Whirlpool Dryer Stains

Your Whirlpool dryer gets your laundry dried in a flash, but sometimes stains can form in the appliance. Whether gum was left in a pocket or your toddler took to the interior with a marker, removing the stain is a necessity so it doesn’t transfer to your clothes. Find out how to remove common stains from your Whirlpool dryer to ensure each load comes out fresh and clean.

  • All-purpose household cleaner
  • Household lubricating spray
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Blow dryer
  • Plastic spatula
  • Dryer sheets

Instructions

  1. Ink/Marker

    • 1

      Moisten a rag with nail polish remover.

    • 2

      Scrub the interior of the Whirlpool dryer with the rag and nail polish remover until the stain is gone.

      Wash the inside of the dryer with a rag and warm, soapy water to remove any residue.

    Crayon

    • 4

      Moisten a rag with all-purpose household cleaner.

      Scrub away the crayon with the rag. Wipe the inside of the dryer with a dry rag to remove any residue from the cleaner.

      Apply household lubricating spray to a clean rag if any of the crayon remains. Wipe away the crayon with the rag and remove any residue by cleaning the inside of the dryer with a clean, damp rag.

    Lipstick

      Wipe as much of the lipstick from the dryer as possible with a dry rag. Do this while the dryer is still warm for best results. Let the dryer cool.

      Moisten a clean rag with rubbing alcohol. Scrub away any remaining lipstick with the alcohol-soaked rag.

      Wipe the dryer drum with a clean, damp rag to remove any residue.

    Gum

    • 10

      Soften the gum by apply air from a blow dryer. Hold the hair dryer 6 inches from the gum for about one minute to soften it.

      Scrape away as much of the gum as possible with a plastic spatula.

      Spray all-purpose cleaner onto a rag. Scrub away any remaining gum from the dryer.

      Wipe the interior of the dryer with a clean, damp rag to remove any residue.

    Dye

    • 14

      Moisten a dryer sheet with water. Rub it on the inside of the dryer over the dye marks. Discard the sheet once it becomes filled with dye and get a new one. Continue doing this until the dryer sheet is no longer lifting the dye.

      Dampen a rag with warm, soapy water. Wipe away any remaining dye with the rag.

      Rinse the soap residue from the dryer with a clean, damp rag. Dry the inside of the dryer thoroughly.

    General Cleaning/Stain Removal

      Combine 1 part hot water and 3 parts powdered laundry detergent in a bowl. Mix it to make a thick paste.

      Apply the paste to a clean, soft rag. Use the rag and paste to scrub the interior of the dryer.

      Rinse the dryer with a clean, damp rag. Dry well with another rag to remove any residue.
