Removing Polyurethane Construction Adhesive From Walls

Polyurethane provides an alternative to other forms of bonding material, including traditional wood glue, nails and screws in the construction world. The bonding agent is used to glue baseboards and molding onto walls, and it eliminates the need for nails to attach framing to windows and doors. Unfortunately, polyurethane glue is extremely strong and almost impossible to remove after bonding. Get to the unwanted polyurethane glue stain quickly before it dries to remove it from your walls.

Instructions

    • 1

Dab at the wet polyurethane glue with a rag. Dampen the rag with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover if the glue is beginning to dry. Avoid vigorously rubbing the polyurethane glue to prevent spreading over the surface.

    • 2

Continue to dab at the glue until the majority is removed. If the glue is already dry, move onto the next step.

    • 3

Remove the glue with fine-grit sandpaper. Rub the wall with the sandpaper, paying attention to avoid damaging the paint or wallpaper underneath. If the cured glue is not completely gone, move onto the next step.

    • 4

Scrape away the glue with a plastic paint scraper. Holding the scraper at a 30-degree angle, lift the dried polyurethane from the wall, paying attention to avoid causing damage.
