Blot the stain right away with a paper towel or clean cloth. Blotting means applying gentle pressure to the paper, not rubbing. If you rub too hard, the stain will get worse. If the stain is old and dry, blot it with cold water and apply vegetable glycerine.
Place a clean dry cloth or paper towel on the stain, turn it over and blot soda water on the other side of the stained area. Alternatively, mix a mild laundry detergent with water and blot it on the stain. Makeup can usually be removed by pre-treating with detergent. Replace the dry cloth or paper towel on the stained side once saturated.
Spray the stain with a pre-wash stain remover and wash the article of clothing according to the manufacturer's instructions on the label. Use bleach if the label says it is okay to use bleach. Read the label on the bleach as well to make sure it is safe to use on stains.
Check the stain when you take it out of the wash. If it is still stained, repeat the removal steps and wash it again. If you place the article in the dryer before the stain is gone, the heat sets the stain.
