Test the fabric for colorfastness on an inconspicuous area of the sheet. If there are no signs of color bleed, you can use nail polish remover on the sheets.
Place a white towel under the nail polish stain.
Soak a cotton ball in acetone-free nail polish remover. You can use nail polish remover with acetone, but it is more likely to fade or remove dyes in the fabric.
Blot the nail polish stain with the cotton ball. Do not scrub or the fabric will pill. In addition, the nail polish stain will smear.
Continue to blot the stain until all nail polish is removed. Reds and heavily pigmented purples or blacks will take longer to remove because the pigments will permeate the fabric.
Rinse the fabric under cool, running water.
Wash immediately in cold water using a mild detergent. Egyptian cotton can be washed in warm water with a cold rinse, but you want to avoid too much heat that could set any remaining nail polish pigments during the washing process.
Place a white towel under one of the bottom corners of your top sheet.
Soak a cotton ball in acetone-free nail polish remover.
Blot the bottom corner of the sheet with the cotton ball, thoroughly soaking the corner.
Check the cotton ball for any signs of color bleed. Lift the corner of the sheet and examine the towel for dye transfer. If there are no signs of color bleed, continue to the next step. If there are signs of color bleed, rinse the fabric immediately in cold water and do not use nail polish remover on the nail polish stain.
Allow the nail polish remover to set for two minutes and then blot the same area with a cotton ball soaked in water.
Repeat Step 4.
