Removing Correction Fluid From Leather

Correction fluid covers ink, pencil or typewriter writing, and is useful for correcting mistakes or making minor changes on existing printed documents. If you should accidentally spill correction fluid onto a leather surface, don’t panic. Allow it to dry completely before attempting to remove it. First, try to determine your correction fluid's formulation, and choose your cleaning method accordingly. A water-based product, such as Bic Wite-Out Water Based Correction Fluid, is water-soluble. A petroleum-based product, like Bic Extra Coverage or Bic Quick Dry, requires a citrus-based cleaner for removal.

Use a damp, clean cloth to absorb as much of the correction fluid spill as possible.

    • 2

Apply a leather cleaner to the stained area to remove any remaining stain. Use according to the directions on the product.

    • 3

Apply leather conditioner to the entire surface of the leather seat, furniture or other object.

    • 4

Allow the conditioner to soak into the leather for a few minutes, or as the product instructions direct.

    Petroleum-Based Correction Fluid Stains

    • 6

Wet a clean cloth with warm water. Apply the cloth to the correction fluid stain and the area of the leather surrounding the stain until the surface feels moist. This will help prevent the unstained leather surrounding the stain from soaking up any excess cleaner.

    • 7

Apply a small amount of citrus-based cleaner to one section of a clean cloth.

    • 8

Gently dab the stain with the part of the cloth containing the cleaner, using a light touch. Continue dabbing to remove as much of the correction fluid stain as possible.
