How to Get Rust Off Porcelain Plates From Dishwasher

We place our dishes into the dishwasher with the sole intent of having them clean when they come back out, but sometimes it doesn’t always work out that way. Old metal pipes can carry rust into your dishwasher and wind up on your dishes, leaving plates with unsightly stains. If your porcelain plates were the victims of rust, it’s important to use a cleaner that is both acidic enough to cut through the stain and gentle enough to not damage the plate.

• Table salt
• Lemon juice
• Dish soap

     Cover each stain with a thick layer of table salt.

     Pour fresh lemon juice over the salt to completely saturate it.

     Leave the plate in a cool, dry place overnight.

     Brush away the salt from the plate in the morning with a sponge or soft cloth.

     Wash the areas where the rust spots were with warm soapy water. Repeat the process if necessary or if you need to remove spots on the opposite side of the plates.
