How to Get Hair Dye Out of Wooden Floorboards

Hair dye alters the color of your hair and anything else it stains. The pigment in hair dye is easily absorbed into wooden floorboards. If you act fast, a fresh hair dye stain can be wiped right off; but hair dye pigment that's been on the wood floor surface longer leaves a discolored spot on the surface. You can get a hair dye stain out of wooden floorboards by removing the stain and restoring the finish.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe off any surface hair dye from the wooden floorboards with a damp paper towel.

    • 2

Moisten a stain-erasing sponge. Squeeze out excess moisture. Scrub the wooden floorboard to remove as much of the hair dye stain as possible. Dry the surface with a paper towel.

    • 3

Dampen a clean rag with hydrogen peroxide. Place the rag directly over the remaining hair dye stain. Leave the peroxide-dampened rag on the wood floor surface overnight to bleach out the remaining hair dye stain.

    • 4

Remove the peroxide-dampened cloth from the surface of the wood floor. Clean the floor surface with an appropriate wood cleaner and cloth.

    • 5

Dry the wooden floorboard with a clean cloth. Allow the wood to air dry for a minimum of five hours.

    • 6

Touch up the wood stain on the floor where the hair dye stain was removed. Apply a matching wood stain with a paintbrush. Move the brush with the wood grain to blend in the finish. Allow the wood finish to air dry overnight.
