Household Products That You Can Use to Get Rid of Orange Roots

Dandruff Shampoo and Baking Soda

• Remove orange roots or any unwanted hair dye color by using a mixture of dandruff shampoo and baking soda. Mix equal parts baking soda and shampoo; use enough of the mixture to coat roots entirely. Perform this action while showering, as hair must be thoroughly wet for the mixture to work. Rinse out the mixture and repeat the process two to four times, or until the dye is completely removed.

Laundry Detergent

• Use laundry detergent to get rid of orange roots. Add about 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of commercial liquid detergent to your regular shampoo; rinse thoroughly to avoid possible damage to hair. Repeat the process as needed until all of the dye has been removed. Do not use detergent that contains bleach or any bleach products to remove hair dye.

Dish Soap

• Get rid of orange roots by fading the color with liquid dish soap. Because dish soap can have a drying effect on tresses, add only 3 or 4 drops to your regular shampoo to remove the unwanted hair dye. Rinse the dish soap and shampoo from the hair thoroughly and repeat as needed until the orange color has faded completely.

Vitamin C

• Vitamin C powder mixed with a quarter-size amount of shampoo can work as a method of fading hair dye. Mix the ingredients until they form a paste, then apply the paste to roots and leave on for 15 to 25 minutes. Repeat as necessary until hair color has faded, then shampoo and condition hair as usual.

Lemon Juice and Tartar Sauce

• Create a hair color removal mixture by adding about 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to a 1/8 cup of cream of tartar sauce, to form a paste. Apply the mixture to your roots and leave on for five to 15 minutes before thoroughly rinsing hair.

Olive Oil and Mayonnaise

• Mix equal parts olive oil and mayonnaise to create another hair dye removal concoction. Apply the mixture to orange roots and leave on for one to two hours before thoroughly rinsing out. Mayonnaise and olive oil both work as hair moisturizers in addition to color strippers.

White Vinegar

• Fade orange roots by applying a mixture of two parts water and one part white vinegar to hair. Allow the mixture to settle for two to four minutes, then shampoo and condition as usual.
