How to Get Polyethylene Foam Off Clothes

Lightweight polyethylene foam is often used for packaging. Although normally not adhesive, polyethylene foam is used in double-sided tape. The residue that tape leaves behind can be difficult to remove. Washing your clothes may not remove the leftover stickiness from the polyethylene foam. However, some strategies can help you remove polyethylene foam from clothing. Because different clothing materials react differently to different substances, test a small amount on an unnoticeable part of your clothing before trying to remove the adhesive residue.

Instructions

Soak a cloth or sponge in white vinegar. Cover the residue with the cloth and let it remain on the stain overnight. Remove the cloth and carefully peel up the sticker or remaining polyethylene foam tape residue. Rinse your clothing and wash as normal.

Prepare a baking soda and water paste. Mix baking soda with an equal amount of water. Rub the paste on the polyethylene foam stain. Wipe it off with a warm cloth. You may need to repeat this process to completely remove the stain.

Use a product that is specifically designed to remove sticker adhesive found in polyethylene foam, such as a spray gel cleaner like Goo Gone or Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. Read the label carefully to ensure that it is safe to use on clothing.
