How to Get Transmission Lubricant Out of Clothing

If your clothing comes into contact with transmission lubricant, there is little doubt that it will display a highly visible stain as well as a strong odor. Before you trash your favorite clothing because of an ugly transmission oil stain, try removing the stain on your own. There is a do-it-yourself stain removal method that will remove lubricant stains without the use of strong chemicals or expensive dry cleaning professionals.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat surface
  • Talcum powder
  • Small whisk broom
  • one-half cup grease-cutting liquid dish detergent
  • Small bowl
  • one-quarter cup water
  • Scouring brush
  • Washing machine

Instructions

      Place the garment on a flat surface.

      Sprinkle enough talcum powder on the stain to completely cover it.

      Allow to sit overnight.

      Brush the talcum powder away using a small whisk brush.

      Pour one-half cup grease-cutting liquid dish detergent into a small bowl.

      Add one-quarter cup water to the dish detergent.

      Pour a small amount of the detergent mixture onto the stain.

      Scrub the soap mixture into the stain with a scouring brush. Continue scrubbing until the stain lifts from the garment.

      Launder the garment in a washing machine as usual.
