How to Remove Carpet Stains With Washer Fluid

Eco-friendly and homemade windshield washer fluids often contain some of the same ingredients recommended for cleaning carpet stains. These ingredients, such as rubbing alcohol, vinegar and detergent, help break down and remove carpet stains such as grease, beverage and food stains. In the absence of these ingredients, you can use non-colored washer fluid to remove stains and get your carpet clean.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape any stain material off the carpet with the dull side of a table knife. Wipe the table knife on a paper towel and continue until the substance is completely removed.

    • 2
Paper towels absorb liquid, allowing you to focus on the stain.

Lay two or three paper towels over the stained carpet. Press down to absorb any liquid in the fibers. Repeat to remove as much moisture as possible.

    • 3

Spray the remaining carpet stain with the washer fluid to moisten the fibers.

    • 4

Blot the carpet with a clean, dry cloth to lift the washer fluid and stain. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the remaining stain is removed.

    • 5

Allow the carpet to air-dry completely.
