Septic Tank Fumes Stained the Toilet Seat

Homes and business use either a public sewage system or septic system to dispose of waste. A septic system consists of pipes that lead to an underground tank on the property. If fumes from a septic tank stained a toilet seat, the seat can be cleaned. The fumes, however, should be addressed by performing maintenance to the septic system.
  1. Fumes

    • If a septic system creates fumes or odors, it may not function properly. The toilet and sewage pipes may have blockages. Blockages can be removed with a toilet auger or pipe snake. Also, the septic tank may require draining. Septic system waste removal companies drain such tanks.

    Melamine Foam

    • A melamine foam pad is one of the items that may remove the stains. The task requires wearing rubber gloves. Rinse a melamine foam pad under warm water, and ring it out in your gloved hand. Rub the melamine foam pad on the stain. The pad wears down as it is used. When that happens, use another area of the pad that is still intact until the stain disappears.

    Bleach

    • Using bleach is another way to remove the stain on the toilet seat. Wearing rubber gloves is necessary for this method, as is a sponge that has abrasive material on one of its sides. Wet the sponge with warm water, and ring it out in your gloved hands. After spraying bleach cleaner or household bleach onto the sponge side of the sponge, press the sponge against the stain. The bleach needs to sit on the stain for a few minutes. Rinse the sponge, and wipe the toilet seat clean. If the stain remains, spray the sponge's abrasive side with bleach, and use it to scrub the stain lightly until it is removed.

    Maintenance

    • Septic systems cannot withstand overuse of harsh chemicals or solvents that are in many cleaning products. When cleaning the toilet, spray chemicals or cleaning products directly onto a damp sponge or cotton rag, and then use that tool to wipe a stain or ring in the toilet bowl and toilet seat. Use chemicals directly in the toilet sparingly unless the product is safe to use in septic systems. A toilet bowl brush works well to clean a toilet bowl.

Flushing a septic tank treatment down the toilet once each month can help to maintain a septic system. Septic tank treatment products contain organic bacteria that break down waste in a septic tank. Properly maintaining a septic system reduces or eliminates fumes and odors.
