How to Clean Rust From a Stratocaster Bridge

If your electric guitar is one of your most prized possessions, you may be struck with a feeling of shock and bewilderment upon finding rust on the Stratocaster Bridge. This piece, which anchors the strings and affects the tone of your guitar, is probably made of steel. But never fear, with the help of a well-known powdered “friend,” you can safely and rather quickly get your guitar looking as good as you sound playing it.

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a sponge with warm water.

    • 2

Gently wipe the area where you wish to remove the rust.

    • 3

Re-wet the sponge and then sprinkle some Bar Keepers Friend onto it.

    • 4

Rub the sponge onto the surface of the bridge in small, circular motions until you create a filmy paste.

    • 5

Let the mixture sit on the bridge for one minute. Meanwhile, wet and wring out the sponge.

    • 6

Wipe the bridge clean of rust.

    • 7
Keep a clean rag nearby and store one in your guitar case.

Buff the bridge to a shiny gloss with a clean, lint-free cloth to bring your guitar back to performance mode.
