How to Unwrinkle Rayon Fabric

There are two categories of fabric. Cotton, denim, linen and flannel fall into the natural category, while rayon, polyester and nylon fall into the synthetic category. Rayon in particular, tends to wrinkle more than other fabrics but it is a strong fabric. Because it's synthetic, rayon does not take heat too well and can burn if too much heat is applied. You can unwrinkle rayon fabric with an iron in two different ways.

Instructions

  1. Dry Iron

    • 1

Place your fabric flat onto an ironing board.

    • 2

Set the iron to low heat.

    • 3

Move the iron so it follows the line of the fabric, generally in an up and down motion. Don't let the iron lie against the fabric too long because rayon can burn quickly.

    Steam Iron

    • 4

Use the iron's steam setting. Turn it to low.

    • 5

Place a piece of aluminum foil onto the ironing board.

    • 6

Put your piece of rayon fabric directly on top of the aluminum foil. Make sure the fabric is flat.

    • 7

Hold the iron about 2 to 3 inches from the rayon fabric and press down on the steam button.

    • 8

Go over the fabric several times so that the rayon steams with help from the aluminum foil. The steam helps pull out wrinkles from the fabric.
