Laundry Storage Options

Laundry can pile up and become out of control in any home, which is especially true for homes that have no laundry facilities, where the laundry needs to be bundled up and taken to a laundromat. If your laundry has begun to overflow your baskets and take up valuable living space, while also becoming an eyesore, perhaps the time has come to explore some laundry storage options to keep things orderly.
  1. Hampers

    • Hampers can hide your dirty laundry in a way that also adds to the decor theme of any room. Choose a different hamper for each bedroom, the bathroom and even the kitchen, which can help you to keep the baskets clear for transporting items from one room to the next on laundry day. The hamper in the kitchen can save you from having to rush around to toss that dirty dish towel just before company arrives.

    Separators

    • If you have a laundry room with adequate space for laundry storage, put it to good use and set up a separator. Laundry separators can be purchased in most household goods stores and department stores. Use a two-bin or three-bin separator to divide your laundry into whites, colors and delicate items. When you bring dirty clothes into the laundry room, just toss them in the appropriate bin, and you can save yourself from separating clothes during wash time.

    Closets

    • Use your linen closet to hold dirty clothes on the lowest or largest shelf. Place a laundry basket under the last shelf to serve as a collection area for bath towels, clothing and any dirty laundry you want to hide away. When you are finished putting the dirty laundry away, just shut the door until laundry day. If you have athletes in the family or kids with active play styles, keep a scented herb sachet in the basket with the clothes to control the odor.

    Laundry Sacks

    • Hauling several baskets to the laundromat might not be the most effective way to handle your wash. Keep all of your dirty clothing together and ready to go when you are by hanging a large laundry sack on a wreath hook over a hall closet door or bedroom door, which will keep the items out of sight but also accessible at a moment's notice. If the sack has pockets, keep small plastic containers of laundry detergent and quarters in them so you have everything you need.
