Laundering Instructions for Viscose

Viscose is made from regenerated wood cellulose and is most often used today to make rayon. It is similar in texture to silk and cotton, is soft, light and does not irritate the skin like harsher fabrics. It can be used to make any variety of fabrics from sheets to clothing. Viscose is a delicate fabric, so take caution when laundering. If your viscose item is labeled with specific laundering instructions, always follow those instructions to insure the best care for the fabric.

Instructions

    • 1

Sort viscose items according to color. This will prevent the colors from running into each other in the wash cycle. The best option for sorting is to sort whites into one pile and have another pile for prints and colors.

    • 2

Fill your washing machine or hand-washing tub half full. Viscose will wash best in half capacity.

    • 3

Add mild laundry detergent. This detergent should be one that is safe to use on delicates, such as silk. Never use chlorine bleach on viscose.

    • 4

Set your laundry cycle to the gentle washing and spin cycle. Make sure that the temperature is set no higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 5

Hang your viscose items on a line or rack after the wash cycle. Never put them in a dryer.

    • 6

Iron any wrinkled items with a steam iron set on a medium-high heat setting.
