How to Get Rid of a Small Animal in My Garage

Look around the garage for any obvious openings that the animals might be using to get into the garage. Gaps around doors or windows or uncovered vents are some places you should inspect.

Seal any openings you find. Use boards to cover large openings. Drill 3-inch screws through pieces of wood and into the wall on either side of a hole. Around doors or small gaps, spray in expanding foam. Let the foam dry, and then cut off the excess with a utility knife.

Set out poison to kill the animals. Sometimes they will leave the area once they are sick, or they may go out and look for other food. They will die and not return. However, there are times when they might die in the garage. If this happens, use gloves to pick up the animal and dispose of it in a plastic bag.

Set up traps to catch the animals alive. Take the animals to another location and set them free. Use gloves when handling traps with live animals. Check with animal control to make sure that trapping is allowed in your area.

Leave the garage door open and try to lure the animals outside with food they might like. This is the best course if you are dealing with animals such as skunks. You don't want to tangle with them. It is better to encourage them outside without coming in direct contact with them.
