How Do I Clean a Chenille Comforter?

Chenille throws are woven or knitted from special chenille yarn, which is composed of soft, short fibers twisted around an inner core. The short fibers bush out, giving chenille the feel of velvet or velour. As the short fibers are usually constructed from man-made fibers, chenille is naturally stain resistant, and the smooth texture rarely holds onto crumbs or pet hair. However, a well-used chenille throw will need periodic cleaning.

Instructions

    • 1

Add a capful or two of a gentle detergent, the kind you would use to wash delicate items by hand, into a basin or bathtub (always defer to the manufacturer's directions on the bottle).

    • 2

Fill the basin or bathtub with cool water, and agitate it with your hand to mix the detergent and water.

    • 3

Place the chenille throw into the bathtub or basin, and gently agitate the water again for five minutes.

    • 4

Drain the soapy water from the basin or tub, and refill with clean, cool water to rinse the throw. Ensure all detergent is washed out of the throw.

    • 5

Squeeze excess water from the throw, and place in a clothes dryer.

    • 6

Set the dryer to a low setting, and let it tumble dry the chenille throw.
