Freezing gum that is stuck on blankets or other fabrics will make it simpler to remove. If the blanket or garment is small enough, place the entire item into the freezer and leave it until the gum is completely frozen. Alternatively, put several cubes of ice in a plastic bag and place on the gum; leave until the gum freezes, or simply rub a cube of ice over the fabric. Once the gum is frozen, use a knife, credit card or other object to gently scrape the gum off the fabric, refreezing as necessary.
Detergents may be effective at removing chewing gum from blankets and other fabrics. Try pre-washes, stain removers and regular laundry detergents. To use, apply selected detergent on fabric and leave for at least five minutes. Add more detergent and then rub, using a brush. Rinse in hot water and repeat if necessary. Once the gum is removed, wash the blanket in the washing machine as usual. If stains are still present, repeat. Do not dry the blanket until all the chewing gum is removed.
Try using peanut butter to remove gum and stains. Simply rub peanut butter over the gum until it loosens and can be removed. The oils in peanut butter that make it useful for removing chewing gum from clothing may also stain fabrics, however. Use a stain remover and wash blankets as soon as the chewing gum is removed. If stains persist after washing, repeat the process.
If other methods for removing chewing gum from a blanket do not work, try egg whites. Beat egg whites in a mixing bowl using a whisk. The number of eggs you need will depend upon the size of the stain. Rub the egg white over the stain until it disappears. Wash the blanket as usual.
