How Can I Safely Machine Wash Woven Chenille Jacqard?

Chenille is a soft fabric, and jacquard is a type of weaving pattern. Chenille woven in the jacqard style is a common fabric for drapery and bedding, and it can also be used to upholster furniture or pillows. The fabric is machine washable, but you need to wash it with on a specific cycle so you do not damage or mar the fabric. Washing it improperly may cause the fabric to shrink, pile, or become otherwise altered. By following a few key tips, you will keep your woven chenille jacqard looking fresh and as good as new.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the chenille jacquard piece in the washing machine by itself. Add one scoop of your regular laundry detergent. Do not add bleach or fabric softener.

    • 2

Close the lid. Set the machine to a delicate cycle with cold water. The delicate cycle minimizes the agitation in your washing machine, which prevents damage to the fabric. Do not use a pre-soak option, as soaking can weaken the fibers.

    • 3

Run the cycle. When the cycle finishes, remove the piece from the washer immediately.

    • 4

Tumble dry the piece, in the dryer, on low heat. Do not use dryer sheets or fabric softener sheets.
