How to Make Static Eliminator Dryer Sheets

Clingy, static-filled clothing can be downright embarrassing. While using commercial dryer sheets eliminates static cling, there are other options available that are more environmentally friendly and cost effective. Making your own static-eliminator dryer sheets allows you to choose the ingredients so you know what you and your family are being exposed to. Rather than throwing them away after each use, homemade dryer sheets can be used again and again, saving you money and sparing the environment another piece of garbage.

  • Scissors
  • Bowl

Instructions

  1. Dryer Sheet 1

    • 1
An old, soft cotton T-shirt helps to make effective dryer sheets.

Cut an old, clean cotton T-shirt into washcloth-sized squares.

    • 2

Place 1 tsp. hair conditioner in a bowl and add 1/2 cup warm water. Stir the two together to dilute the conditioner. Add two drops of essential oil to make a scented dryer sheet.

    • 3

Soak one T-shirt square in the static-eliminating solution. Wring out the excess liquid. Place the homemade dryer sheet in the dryer, along with your clothing.

    • 4

Store the rest of the static-eliminating liquid in a plastic container to use as needed. Alternatively, soak more T-shirt squares in the liquid until all the liquid is used. Hang the squares to dry and use them as needed.

    Dryer Sheet 2

    • 5

Pour 1 cup of undiluted white vinegar into a bowl.

    • 6

Submerge and old, clean cotton sock in the vinegar. Allow the sock to become completely wet, then wring out excess vinegar so the sock is merely damp.

    • 7

Put the vinegar-dampened sock in the dryer with your clothing to freshen the clothes and eliminate static. Store the remaining vinegar for the next load of laundry.
