How to Remove Stubborn Wrinkles From Thick Fabric

The finishing touch on an elegant outfit or a well-chosen textile is the smooth, clean look of a fresh ironing job. Some fabrics, however, seem to have wrinkles and creases no matter how many times you try to press them out. Cottons, denim and heavy linens, in particular, can be a challenge to smooth out. However, you can get the job done with a few extra minutes and a little effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a spray bottle with equal amounts of water and vinegar. Spray a small amount on an inconspicuous area of the fabric to test for color damage.

    • 2

Spray the stubborn wrinkles with the vinegar solution, and roll the fabric up. Wrap it in a cloth for five to 10 minutes to allow the solution to distribute across the fabric and permeate it.

    • 3

Unroll the fabric, and lay it on the ironing board upside down, or inside out if it is a garment with a front and a back. Iron the reverse side of the fabric on the appropriate heat setting.

    • 4

Turn the fabric over, and iron the front side.
