How to Iron Polyester

When it comes to ironing, one technique does not work for every type of material. While cotton can withstand high heat and steam and often requires it for proper wrinkle removal, synthetic materials often require more caution to avoid melting or damaging the material. By doing a little extra preparation and avoiding direct contact with the material, you can ensure that you don't damage the garment you wish to iron and still remove wrinkles quite easily.

Things You'll Need

  • Ironing board

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in the iron and turn its heat setting to low or medium. If the iron has a "Polyester" setting, use this setting.

    • 2

Lay the polyester garment out flat on the ironing board.

    • 3

Press the flat side of the iron against the garment and hold it in place for a few seconds before pressing it against a new location. Work your way around the entire garment until all wrinkles are removed. Lightly spray very wrinkled areas with the water bottle before ironing.

Use a pressing cloth for sensitive garments. Lay the pressing cloth over the area to be ironed and press the iron against the cloth. This avoids direct contact with the iron.
