How to Keep Red From Bleeding Onto Whites

Laundry can be a tricky household chore, especially if you're not familiar with how to properly sort clothes. For example, if you choose to wash all your laundry -- both light- and dark-colored -- together, some fabrics may bleed onto others, ruining clothes in the process. White clothes are most affected by bleeding and red clothes are particularly prone to bleeding, which means mixing them together is definitely a bad idea. It's always best to separate lights from darks when doing laundry.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the reds from the whites when washing clothes. If you wash these colors at separate times, you won't have to worry about colors bleeding.

    • 2

Wash your clothes in cold water if you choose to keep the reds and whites together. Cold water is less likely to bleed colors from fabrics than is hot water.

    • 3

Wash red clothes once by themselves before attempting to wash them with white clothes. More color is likely to bleed from the red clothes the first time you wash them.
